Three steps to becoming an authorised financial adviser
Step one
Meet education standards
The road to becoming a financial adviser starts with obtaining an ‘approved’ qualification offered through an authorised education provider (i.e. university). A hallmark of an approved qualification is a financial planning major.
A list of current approved qualifications can be found on the Financial Adviser Standards Treasury website. Visit fas.treasury.gov.au/education-standards/approved-courses. Morgans employees have access to discounted fee arrangements with selected education providers.
Complete your professional year
The next step is to complete the minimum 12-month supervised professional year with an Australian Financial Services Licensee. The professional year is designed to provide a range of advisory and support role experiences to prepare individuals for the transition to an ASIC authorised financial adviser.
By the end of the second quarter of the professional year, a pass result is required in the ASIC Financial Adviser Exam. The exam can be undertaken either prior or during the Professional Year. More information can be found on the ASIC website.
Morgans offers a structured professional year program designed to build your capability and confidence to ultimately become an authorised financial adviser.
Authorised financial adviser
The final step occurs once the professional year is successfully completed. The licensee will update the Authorised Representative registration within the ASIC Financial Advisers Register from provisional financial adviser to financial adviser.
Morgans is committed to growing the next generation of financial advisers to meet the ever-growing need for professional financial advice.
